19 - 21
Full Time

Recap

The first Maritime Bowl Game was a hard fought battle between two evenly matched teams.

The Wanderers took the opening kickoff and concluded a seven minute drive with Richard Naves 20 yard touchdown pass to Doug McPhee. The convert attempt failed.

Halifax would answer back with a long drive of their own that ended with Trevor Slaunwhite’s 25 yard touchdown pass to Travis Lobban. Dave Foyers would add the convert to put the Subways up 7-6.

In the final minute of the first quarter Jon Haines broke loose on an 80 yard touchdown romp to put Saint John back in the lead 12-7. A two point conversion attempt was no good.

Once again the Subways put together a drive that ended with Chris Livingstone’s 5 yard touchdown pass to Dave Foyers. Foyers would add the convert as Halifax regained the lead 14-12.

The see-saw battle continued as on their next possession the Wanderers put together another drive that lead to a 30 yard touchdown pass from Richard Naves to Jeff Thomas. This time the convert was good and Saint John took a 19-14 lead into the halftime break.

In the third quarter Halifax drove all the way to the Saint John 15 yard line where the Wanderers Clifton Richards’ interception got the ball back for Saint John. However, on the second play from scrimmage the Wanderers fumbled the ball back to Halifax. This time Alan Wetmore went in from the five yard line and Dave Foyers once again converted to give the Subways a 21-19 lead.

In the fourth quarter Saint John drove all the way to the Halifax 10 yard line where a field goal attempt was blocked. On the last play of the game Richard Naves hit Jeff Thomas on a long pass to the Halifax 7 yard line. Unfortunately for the Wanderers time had expired and the Subways were the Maritime Bowl Champions.
