Saint John Wanderers
Est. 1954
The Saint John Wanderers began competing for the Burchill Trophy in the early 1950's, battling against such teams as the Mount Allison University Mounties, UNB Red Bombers, and the St. Thomas Tommies. But it wasn't until 1960 that the Wanderers actually beat the Tommies for the Championship, with a score of 25-6. The league rested in 1961 then the Wanderers stormed back to win its second consecutive Burchill Trophy in '62, beating the Tommies again, with an improved score of 30-12.
After the Universities formed their own league in '63, there was no one left for the Wanderers to play. They went to rest as defending back to back Champions. The interlude lasted for 39 years...
The Wanderers were resurrected in 2001, along with the original Burchill Trophy. It was kept in good hands by former Wanderer Champion and Hall of Fame Inductee, Randolph Hope.
Since the 2001 restoration, the Wanderers have captured the most Burchill Trophy's (best record in N.B.) 11 times!!!. They did win seven consecutive (2011-17).
In 2016, they have made MFL history by capturing their 4th consecutive Maritime Championship!!!
