Wanderers Hall of Fame Inductee 2016
Barry came out of St. Vincent’s Boys’ High School and was a distinguished tri-sport athlete at St. Thomas College when the school was located in Chat-ham, excelling in rugby, hockey and football. He played on championship teams in all three sports, was named the college’s athlete of the year in 1950 and was later inducted into the St. Thomas University Wall of Fame in 2011.
Upon his return to Saint John in the early 1950s, Barry became a driving force in organizing the Wanderers, serving as coach, quarterback, punter and place-kicker. In 1955, the versatile athlete was named the New Brunswick Canadian Football League’s all-star quarterback and league co-MVP, sharing the honour with well-known Saint John sports figure Fred O’Brien, then starring for St. Thomas.
